Light up the village in this simulation game

ArsonVille is a slightly disturbing simulation game from SA Industry where—as the name suggests—you will have to set an entire map aflame. In this strategy game, you will have to take into account all of the elements available on each map so that you can light up all the trees and houses that you can see.

ArsonVille presents a unique take on your typical casual games as it does require more planning as you only get one chance to get the job done. Compared to games like Cities: Skylines, however, this indie title is much more simplistic and direct-to-the-point.

Bring on the flames

With infinite possibilities and procedurally generated maps, ArsonVille promises a number of various ways for you to enjoy the game. Players are presented with an 11-by-11 map where elements like trees and structures will be placed randomly for each round you play. As previously mentioned, you’ll have to find a way to burn all of these items down with just one flame.

The mechanics are incredibly simple, as well, so new players will have no trouble getting the hang of it in no time. Players can also appreciate the simple block-like visuals that easily remind them of their classic board game pieces. You can also access a readily available menu on the side where you can generate a new map at any time or reset the current map.

However, it falls short in terms of variety, as there is only one game mode with the same items only being placed in different areas. The possible flammable items you can place on the map are also quite limited, as well. This lack of options limits its long-term appeal, especially since the lack of progression also minimizes the overall gameplay duration

Could use some variety

ArsonVille serves as a great strategic puzzler for those who enjoy tactical challenges. With only one chance to get it right, players will have to think up the best strategies and use the right items in order to complete the procedurally generated maps. However, the game could benefit from more game modes and accelerants to provide a deeper gameplay experience.

PROS

  • Procedurally generated 11-by-11 maps
  • Mechanics are simple and easy to understand
  • Adorable board game-like graphics
